You are whisked off into the city of Srinigar,
through a maze of streets and past inumerable wooden structures that appear
to be as old as the venerable mountains themselves. Occasionally bridges
cross canals in which all of the activity of the streets is repeated at
a much slower pace. Off of a more quiet street you enter the hotel compound
and pass a dry fountain. The hotel clerk looks stressed, "I'm very
sorry but we are full tonight," he apologizes. The hotel he recommends
is listed under "Splurges" in your guidebook and is, by all accounts,
an excellent (if relatively expensive) hotel. You also noticed a much more modest looking hotel across the street, and as tempting as the splurge
is, part of you would just as soon go straight there.
